Buffalo Man Charged - kids and shopping

A Buffalo man was speeding, driving in the wrong direction without his headlights on, and possibly drinking, when he crashed into a teenager's car, according to police.

Prosecutors charged Todd Albert Lifto, 44, in the crash that killed Jonathon Kramnic, 17, a senior atBuffalo High School.

According to a criminal complaint, Kramnic was driving a Toyota Camry westbound on County Road 35 in St. Michael.

Witnesses told police a black Chevrolet Silverado truck, without its headlights on, hit Kramnic's car head-on.

Responding officers said they smelled alcohol on Lifto.

After he was taken to a hospital, his blood was drawn. The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is testing the blood. Results are pending.

Lifto was charged with operating a motor vehicle in a grossly negligent manner and operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

Each charge carries a maximum penalty of ten years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

Investigators told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS Lifto was also arrested in late September for DWI, but so far has not been charged in that incident.

Lifto is in satisfactory condition at Hennepin County Medical Center.

St. Michael is located about 30 miles northwest of Minneapolis.
